"An abomination to the Lord"...that is what my translation says a person with a perverse (or crooked; evil) heart is. (vs 20). It goes on to say that the blameless are His delight. Will I ever be blameless? Will I ever delight God? As long as we are sincere, as long as we are trying...we are a delight to God. Isn't that a wonderful thought to begin your day and encourage you to try hard to walk the right path?
Verse 21 continues this thought. Do you want your children, and their children to be blessed? Of course you do! I don't know of a woman who doesn't want that for her children. Of course, they will have troubles of their own...but in due time, they will be blessed as God promises.
Yes, today's verses were certainly an encouragement to me to do what is right all day long. At the end of the day I will search my heart. Did I delight God today? Will my actions of today be a blessing to my children?

Proverbs 11: 16-19
These Proverbs have so many things to learn. I am just going to take a few verses at a time for the rest of this chapter. Please take the time to soak up some Son this morning!
vs 16--I want to discuss the second half of this verse first. The 'violent' man in this passage is a man that is strong and ruthless. Picture say--Donald Trump. We have to ACTIVELY pursue being kind and gracious...and when we do....we will obtain honor.
vs 17--Think of the last time that you said something mean or did something mean to someone. Perhaps even to your own spouse or child this morning? So, what did that do for you? I know that for me--it just eats me up on the inside. My stomach churns; my mind gets all in a tither. If I would have just handled the situation kindly and with mercy (even to the point of saying Sorry even when we don't feel that we need to! Yikes!) then it is better for all involved--including myself.
vs 18--We have visited this thought several times; and my mind always jumps right to Romans 6:23. Look it up if you need to! What are some ways that you can sow righteousness right where you are in your life today?
vs 19--in verse 18 I asked how you might sow righteousness today. This verse is about being steadfast. The Bible never promises that our life will be easy. But if we actively work hard then the payoff is beyond our human imagination!

Proverbs 11:15
When I first thought about doing this blog; I knew there were several things I would like to accomplish. Besides helping each of us get into God's Word daily, and soaking up His truths, one of the things that I knew I really wanted to discuss is HOW to study God's Word. Now that we have been studying for a while...it is time to learn to dig a bit deeper. Don't worry; I won't ask anything hard of you. And I won't throw too much at you at once.
So, what if you are reading along, and you come across something that you just don't understand? Many people have study Bibles to help them...and that is great. If you don't have one and would like to get one someday, I would highly recommend a John MacArthur study Bible.
There are many Bible study tools that we will discuss as time moves along but today I'd like to talk about a Bible Commentary. What is a Bible Commentary? Well, it is as it says. It 'comments on' or explains the text. If you come to something in the Bible and you just don't quite understand...then perhaps a commentary will help you. It is really nice if you can have your commentary open and read it side by side with your Bible. Just please make sure the commentary is a well-known reputable one!

We are going to have a little fun today...just to teach you that commentaries are not scary and so helpful! Using the link above to Matthew Henry's commentary, here are some questions for you to answer directly from verse 15 of the commentary. "He smarted for it". That is putting it mildly to say the least! (Tonya's commentary again.) Jesus did not have to become surety for our debt. He had thousands of angels to call upon that could have saved Him. Would you die for someone that owes you? How often do we say, "You owe me!"

Proverbs 11:14 Got your Harness Buckled On? Safety from Falling
This is one of those interesting verses that can be looked at in several different ways....ready to dig in?
My title is alluding to a popular hobby for some people: rock climbing, or rock-wall climbing. There are some important safety measures that should be followed in that sport, to ensure the climber doesn't fall (far) and is able to come back to play another day. There's a harness with lots of buckles; there's someone keeping an eye on you; sometimes that person is holding your rope; sometimes there is even a safety net.
With that picture in your imagination, let's look at the layers of meaning in this proverb. The first layer is talking about the possible ruin of a kingdom . . . when things are done rashly, impulsively, without consultation among a group of advisors. For a tribe or a nation (possibly Solomon was looking across the borders at another kingdom) to make decisions without prudent consideration, or without a thought of the common good, is dangerous. Then it is that the people can fall --- they can crumble into factions and quarrel amongst themselves, or they can fall prey to an outside influence, like another nation that is intent on conquering them.
The other side of Solomon's coin is that when a tribe or nation has "a multitude of counselors" they may be more able to discern the correct path for their country and follow it closely. If the advisors see the need for one another, and are concerned about the common good, then that nation is far less likely to fall.
Now, let's go peel back another layer on this proverb (don't worry --- this won't make you cry, the way an onion will!) and look at another meaning. In our private affairs (which seem to us just as weighty as a kingdom's problems) we often find it advantageous to consult with others. Here's our multitude of counselors again! But we need to tread carefully here: while it is good to compare advice from several people (if they all agree, you may have a compass sighting you can use!) we need to be certain that our advisors are Christians, and that they are steering us in a godly direction. If they agree in their advice, our way will be more clear; if they differ, we can hear what is to be said on all sides, and be better able to determine. So, that can be a safety net, too.
Here's the last layer (and I have this feeling that it's the most important one!): if there are a "multitude" of verses that seem to be saying the same thing to us, I think we can say that is guidance we would do well to listen to! Ya think? (Next week, Tonya will be working through more of chapter 11, and I peeked at some of the verses . . . many of them have to do with our lips, our speech, etc. I have a feeling MY toes will be purple after some of those proverbs are explored!)
I've heard it said, that if it is in the Scripture once, it is important. If it is in the Scripture multiple times, God didn't want us to miss it! Quite frankly, if it is in there only once, it's just as important, but I get the speaker's drift, don't you? If we have several verses that back up our decision, our attitude, or our behavior, then we can be much more likely to be climbing correctly, and we can look and check our safety net, and be confident!!

Proverbs 11:12 - 13 Thumper had it Right!
Hi! My name is Jacque -- tho my blogging friends know me by my nickname, Snoodles! I am honored that Tonya entrusted some of the posts to me, and I hope that you will not find my notes too dull! I am praying that the Lord will guide me, and that His Word will open our hearts to what He wants us to learn.
Read verses 12 and 13 of chapter 11, and then let's think on them....
Ready? Good!
I think these verses go together nicely, because they address almost the same issue. In each verse, there is a negative, and then a positive....first, the negative in verse 12. Solomon mentions a person who "despiseth his neighbor" and says he is lacking in wisdom. Then the positive --- a person of understanding who "holds his peace."
Hang on, I'll get to Thumper in a minute!
In verse thirteen, he mentions a "talebearer" and then the positive: a person of a "faithful spirit" who conceals a matter. Hmmmm, I think it's time to let Thumper have his say!
You recall Thumper, don't you? In the movie Bambi? Thumper's mommie has to tell him (pretty often, I think!) that "if you don't have sumpin nice to say, then don't say nothin' at all!"
I think he just summarized these verses for us! God's Word reveals that if we are a person of understanding, and have a faithful spirit, we will not despise our neighbors, or be a talebearer. Instead, we will hold our peace. I kinda get the idea that Solomon's choice of words here: "conceals a matter" doesn't mean we are covering up for someone --- the alternative was to be a talebearer.... I believe that it means that we are not carrying gossip and spreading it around. Whoa! That's a biggie!
One particular verse in the last chapter of Proverbs just popped into my head....verse 26 is what I'll leave for us to think about --- that, and Thumper.
"She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."
Let me know what you think about these verses. Has the Spirit reminded anyone besides me, of a time when a kind word should have been spoken, or just no words spoken at all?

Today
I just want to thank you all for your understanding and prayers. My husband and I spent hours talking this evening. And it went so nicely. I really feel that it is because we were covered in your prayers. I am getting ready to go to bed early tonight. No blog reading or comment writing. *grin* It will be such a nice, relaxing sleep with the knowledge that we will make some changes around our home to help me juggle the things that I need to juggle; and that we have addressed some issues that were bugging me emotionally. I feel like a huge load is just gone from my shoulders.
Tomorrow I have a guest teacher for you! In fact you will see her often over the next week as she is going to give me a little vacation. You will love her and her style. It is completely different than mine and is just wonderful! I will still be here and commenting along. Who is the guest teacher...some of you will know her...some of you won't. But you will all love her. :)
One other note...I know that at least 3 are joining in on our Pilgrims Progress read along. Any others? And is around mid Sept good for all of you to begin or do you need more time?

OFF TOPIC
I am sorry---there is no way that I can type a study tonight. It has been a really really rough night around here. At least for me. Pretty much just for me. Some emotional stuff concerning my quilting hobby and how much of it that I need to just give up on out of necessity. Some days I just want to quit it all. The blog, the quilting, the machine---sell everything and have it out of my face always staring at me. I have spent over 20 years wishing for time to sew. I am weary of it. I threw out several projects tonight because I just had to. When something causes us to sin then it is our job to get rid of it. I was getting frustrated that I never had time to work on these projects. Lusting after having time to sew is no different than a man lusting after a woman. It really isn't! And the fact that it was causing frustration and un-happiness means that it had to go. My place in this world is rearing two boys. It's not about me!
I feel much better now just telling you gals. I couldn't really share that on the quilt blog. Most would not understand.
Now about this study---
It is now 11 p.m and Stephen is still wired for sound. This study always gets TOP priority once Stephen goes to bed. But I cannot find a happy medium. One week I tried type up the entire week at once. I just worked on it any moment of freedom that I had over the weekend until I had the week done. But then I felt my own quiet time lacking during the week. I use this study for my quiet time.
On the other hand, when I type it nightly I feel rushed at night to get it done in between the time Stephen goes to sleep and when he MIGHT wake up. He does in fact wake every night and end up in my recliner with me because his father's snores wake him and I have no idea how to combat that. He's got a loud fan. So I feel like I have to rush the study. I don't like that at all. And tonight I am just not up to that.
So I think I am going to go back to typing the whole study at once--and then reviewing it each day as it posts.
Thank you for your understanding in letting me share some heart stuff tonight. Not that it was your choice :)
Today lets all be in prayer that we are giving God our BEST time each and every day. We will get back to chapter 11 tomorrow but you could read ahead and read it again when I post about it. A little extra reading in God's Word never hurts!

Proverbs 11: 5-11
Do you realize that you are know 1/3 of the way through the book of Proverbs? You have made it this far--even though you have undoubtedly gotten your toes stepped on a time or two.
Our entire reason for studying the Bible is so that we can know more about God, improve our relationship with Christ, and grow stronger in Him. This is all working towards righteousness. Are we righteous? I don't think any of us feel that we are. We have such a long ways to go. But we are getting there. Step by step. Verse by verse.
If we have accepted Christ, and we have truly tried to 'be good' then, guess what? We are the 'righteous' that these verses describe. Read them and be excited of the things promised!
Our entire reason for studying the Bible is so that we can know more about God, improve our relationship with Christ, and grow stronger in Him. This is all working towards righteousness. Are we righteous? I don't think any of us feel that we are. We have such a long ways to go. But we are getting there. Step by step. Verse by verse.

Proverbs 11: 1-4
For today's passage I am stopping after just four verses because of the discussion that I started on Friday.
Please hop back and read Proverbs 10: 15, 16, 22; then read today's passage.
As I responded to a comment for Friday's post; I have lived all sides of the monetary sides of life--I grew up in a household where both parents worked and between them they brought home about $150,000+ a year (that was 20 years ago). I was a single mom for a while that brought in--you ready for this? $350.00/month and had to live in government housing. I have also lived at all stages in between.
I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to live in so many different types of situations. I have learned much and have gained an understanding for people from all walks of life.
Yet, in spite of all of that, I am most happy that I have a relationship with Christ and the more that I grow in Him the more and more blessed that I am. And when just like verse 4 says, the day will come when I have passed out of this world, and I stand before God. And the greatest wealth that I have ever obtained in life will follow me into the afterlife as I enter into the heavenly gates. What a blessing!

Proverbs 10:1-32
This weekend we are going to study a bit more than we normally do--but we have 3 days to do it in so it shouldn't be too hard to get finished.
There are just so many things to learn in these verses. For the most part this passage is dealing with our big mouths! Does your mouth get you into trouble? I am not a 'big mouth' kind of person. I am not loud or boisterous...but that doesn't mean my mouth can't get me into a world of trouble.
I had to think about several things as I read these verses; here are some that stand out at me...there are many more! Please take the time this weekend to really contemplate these verses.
1) Am I diligent? (vs 4-5)
2) Do I receive instruction meekly and without complaint? (vs 8;17)
3) Do I have integrity? (vs 9)
4) Do I have hate in my heart for anyone? (vs 12;18)
5) Am I a blabber mouth or do I listen when I should? (vs 19)
6) When I do speak, is there purpose behind what I speak? (vs 31-32)
A couple of other points for discussion. For all practical purposes...our family is labelled close to the 'poor' end on the USA tax chart. Of course, we don't see ourselves as poor at all. We each have a computer, we have the internet, we have a car. We have meals on our table and a roof over our head. Still, we cannot own many things that a lot of other Americans own such as two cars, satellite, department store clothing, etc. So, what about verses 4, or 15? Is it our fault that we are low on the pay scale?
Ok--can't say much more--we have some big storms here and the power keeps flickering. I need to get off the internet and unplug. We can discuss more this weekend. (except Sunday--I don't get on the computer on Sundays.)

Proverbs 9: 13-18
Today we read about the 'woman of folly'.
How is she similar to the adulterous woman and the harlot? Is she one and the same?
I had to chuckle at verse 17. In our household we have these little trolls. They are always doing bad things like making chocolate show up in our shopping bags while we are at the store. So many foods are on the 'bad' list at our house that other people consider normal everyday foods. But, really, after doing the research we believe that these foods truly are bad for us and shouldn't be consumed. So they shouldn't be a joking matter. But because these foods are on the 'bad' list...they seem so yummy when we eat them.
Kind of like sin, huh? Seems sweet at the time but it has horrible consequences!

Proverbs 9: 7-12
I am a non-confrontational type person for the most part. I don't like debates, I would never be a good politician or lawyer.
There are times that we need to defend our faith...but there are times that we need to just turn around and walk away.
After reading todays passage, flip to the New Testament and read Matthew 10:14.
Sometimes it is best to just move on. Your time and testimony might be best used elsewhere. Of course we need to remember from yesterday that God invites everyone as does Wisdom....some just don't want the invitation. That always makes me sad.
There are times that we need to defend our faith...but there are times that we need to just turn around and walk away.
After reading todays passage, flip to the New Testament and read Matthew 10:14.

Proverbs 9:1-6
Proverbs 9 is split into 3 sections. In this first section, wisdom is poetically personified again, then in the middle section it isn't but then is again in the 3rd section. Just something to keep in mind as we continue....

I personally don't think that each of these things has a meaning...such as we found in the first verse yesterday.
I think that Solomon was just painting a mental picture of the preparation for a big celebration feast for those that choose to accept the invitation.

Proverbs 9: 1
When I started to read Proverbs 9 to prepare for this weeks study, I couldn't get past the first verse. So today we are going to just discuss the Proverbs 9:1. Go ahead and read it now.
Why do you think that Wisdom has 7 pillars? What is significant about the number 7 in this particular passage? Any ideas? I have read through Proverbs countless times...and never took the time to think about there being a 7 there. There must be some reason that there are 7 pillars; instead of just 'pillars' in general. So I did some research. I am so glad that we are doing this study because this was a very interesting topic to research.

To understand what these 7 pillars are, we are going to do a bit of page flipping in your Bible.
What is the very first thing that one must put down before building a house? Yes, of course, a foundation. Read Proverbs 9:10--what is the foundation (or beginning) of Wisdom?
A foundation cannot be laid without first preparing the way. Ground work must be done. Wisdom cannot be obtained and you cannot lay the foundation to obtaining that wisdom unless you do your ground work first. Read I Corinthians 3:11. What is the groundwork that must be done in your life?
Ok, so once we have done our groundwork (accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior), laid our Foundation (Fear of the Lord)...then it is time to build our supporting structures.
We look at Proverbs as the Old Testament book of Wisdom; does anyone know what the New Testament book of Wisdom is? The book of James! (Refer to James 1:5 and 3:13).
The seven pillars of wisdom are listed in James 3:17. Turn there and list the pillars in your journal.
Lets talk a bit about each.
1) PURE--this is the first pillar. The passage even emphasizes that it must come first. So it is the main, center support. The other pillars are built around this one.
2) PEACEABLE--look in 2 Timothy 2: 24-26 to see the Bible's definition of 'peaceable'.
3)GENTLE--the literal Hebrew translation means "appropriate". We must be appropriate at all times.
4) REASONABLE
5)FULL OF MERCY AND GOOD FRUITS--helpful, considerate, kind
6)UNWAVERING--I originally thought this to be unwavering in our belief but it could also mean 'without partiality' or being truly humble
7) WITHOUT HYPOCRISY-- Or sincerity; Always sincere whether it is what we say, what we do, or how we do it.
If we first do the groundwork, then lay the foundation, then build our life with these pillars of support...such a house will not fall!

Proverbs 8:22-31
Read today's Passage.
Now, go read today's passage again.
Wow! I thought these were magnificent verses. I just love thinking about that time BEFORE creation. And the time of creation. There, of course, is no way for us to even come close to envisioning God in our wee little minds...but I do so love His creation and I wish just once I could see it as He was creating.
God's wisdom has been here the whole time. Even before 'time' as we on earth know it.
And the best part of all...what does God's Wisdom delight in?(vs 31)
Oh that I would be a delight to the eye of God. And, yet, I am. He created me. He forgave me. He delights in me.
I am so unworthy!

Proverbs 8:12-21
Today as you read your passage, remember to continue your list that you started yesterday.
Here are a couple of things that stood out to me as I read. Please continue to leave comments about what stands out to you when you read. I like how the Lord speaks to each of us differently sometimes.
vs 13--If we truly fear and respect our God, then not only will we not be proud, arrogant, or have use our mouth for perverse things but we will HATE these things. We will not like being in the presence of it even. (Keeping in mind to love the sinner but hate the sin...) I have a real pet peeve with people saying "Oh, God" or "Jesus" when they are just using it as a slang expression. In past years as a youth leader I was tough on my kids about it. If I heard them say God's name, then I would require everyone to stop what they were doing and that person would be made to pray out loud right then and there. I would always say, "Oh, I am sorry, I didn't know that you were talking to God...we will all pray along with you." Yes, I have an ornery streak--but it was quite effective!

Proverbs 8:1-11
This week as we study Chapter 8 start a new list in your journal. Chapter 8 poetically personifies 'wisdom'. (Meaning it gives it character, almost as if wisdom were a person. We have seen this before and we will see it again.) Make an ongoing list this week of all the claims that wisdom makes. What does wisdom do, promise, etc.
We have talked in the past about false teachers. Isn't it nice to know that with God's Word, we never have to worry about finding the truth? You'll never find something crooked, perverted, or wicked? (Verses 6-9).
Also take notice once again who wrote the book of Proverbs? Yes, Solomon. The wisest man that ever lived or will ever lived. Also the wealthiest man that ever lived or will ever lived. Which was more important to him? Wisdom or Wealth? Which verses answer this question?

We will be having a read-a-long of Pilgrims Progress. We will start the second week of September. This will give everyone that wants to join us ample time to get the book. I would recommend a modern version; we like the one edited by Warren Wiersbe. Any will do though. (Hubby says he likes the original non-edited version but he forgets he's married to a hillbilly sometimes.)

Proverbs 7
Today we are going to read a larger portion than we have in the past, but Proverbs 7 only has 27 verses, so it won't take you very long.
Read Proverbs 7:1-5
Stephen has begun potty training. I really wasn't ready to begin it yet...but he is a big boy and wants to prove it! The only thing is; I have to remind him over and over and over..."Go potty or you'll wet your pants; Go potty or you'll make a mess on the floor; Don't you hide and go potty!"
We have heard similar verses to these before. God is telling us..."Write these down, so you'll remember. Keep my commandments so you will keep in fellowship with me. Don't sin and try to hide it from me!"
Now read Proverbs 7: 6-23
Today we re-visit the prostitute again. This time she is even dressed as a 'harlot'. At least my version says so. She is loud, rebellious, brazen....this time she is easily spotted as sinful. Yet he follows her anyway. And ends up dead.
Read Proverbs 7:24-27
We spent quite a bit of time discussing Friday's post. But I think the thing that we can all carry away from that discussion is that the Holy Spirit will convict you when you need to be convicted; and it may not be at the same time or same way another person is convicted.
These verses kind of wrap it up...keep on that straight and narrow path. Remember...it is very very narrow. Most will stray off of it. Keep your eye on Christ and you will be fine.

If you are interested in doing a read-along (once again, slow progress here, we would not read it very quickly) please comment below. Proverbs 6: 20-35
Your Bible study host is feeling very under the weather, and so is her little guy. So this will be quick this time--for which I am truly sorry. But that is ok...it is YOUR turn. What would YOU say about these verses? You have all weekend to ponder and comment. I am sure that I will comment more as well, so please subscribe to the comments. (I'll wait til I am not strung out on Nyquil though :O)
I would like to draw attention to verses 27 and 28. These verses really stood out to me. There are so many things that we can dapple in...just sticking our toe in to test the water so to speak. If we read that book about (dare I say it?) vampires, or witches, or wizards...did you know that is the same as doing the act? Another modern time example...social media. It is so easy to fall into relationships with the opposite sex using things like fb, blogs, etc. At first it can be a simple striking up an old friendship, but I have seen it become well more than that.
The world is full of traps. We all need to be very diligent to be careful not to snag ourselves in them.
I am finding so many verses to jot down during this study...so many things to commit to heart. How about you?

Proverbs 6: 16-19
Don't just read today's passage. Read it; write it; memorize it.
I had to memorize it years ago when I was in grade school. I think that I need to review it and commit to memory again! I was humbled when I read this. I want to please my God. He has given me everything I have, all that I am , life itself.
Yet, how often have I done these things that He loathes so much? Let me list them in everyday American English.
1) Pride--I have to constantly remind myself that life isnt about ME.
2) Dishonesty--in every way, shape and form
3) Murder
4) Making evil plans--(I am thinking revenge counts here, what do you think?)
5) Feet that rush to do mischief (I wonder if my toddler will read this?) Seriously, there are some people that enjoy making mischief.
6) A witness who tells lies. Let's put this in 'mom perspective'--Have you ever covered up something your child did to protect them from punishment from their father? hmmmm. The same could be for a fellow employee at work. If you were there, you saw the situation, then you are a witness. Saying that you didn't see what happened just to keep someone from getting mad at you; well then you are a witness that tells lies.(Woman are so big about stirring up trouble in the work place, and forming little groups and enjoying ganging up on someone they don't like. I may be a stay at home mom now but I've worked plenty over the years....usually in management position. I used to see this scenario played out daily!)
7) Someone who likes to start arguments---someone who likes to stir things up.
As I look over this list I realize that I have done several of these many times over. Yet, even though God hates the act of disobedience, he loves me so. It humbles me to think that each time I committed one of these things, there was another pound upon the nail that hung God's own Son to a tree. If I seek true forgiveness, meaning that I truly am sorry and will try my hardest not to sin again (even though I will) God never even remembers that I did these things. I am glad that He doesn't hold grudges like I tend to do!

Proverbs 6:12-15
Sometimes it is very easy to spot evil.
Other times it is maybe not so easy.
Read Proverbs 6:12-15
Sometimes spotting evil is just a small thing. A false statement. A passage of Scripture twisted just a bit to make a good 'feel good' sermon.
Flip over to the New Testament and read Matthew 7:15-20.
This day in time it really worries me when beloved friends un-knowingly follow false teachers. On the outside these false teachers look like wonderful Christian people. But please, if you are prone to listening to TV evangelists, or reading their books...please go to your Scriptures and check out what they say for yourself.
When I was pregnant I spent most of the time in bed. I am not a tv person, but I got so bored that sometimes I found myself flipping channels. I came across one very well known female speaker, and started to listen. I just could not believe what I was hearing! I don't recall much of what she said. Something about our good deeds now are running up receipts in heaven to be cashed in later or some kind of strange hog wash. I called my husband and researched this person more...and was sickened by some of the things she taught. She still teaches. There is a famous man preacher/teacher that is the same. It really breaks my heart when I hear of someone following one of these people.
I am not going to give out names. If you have some evangelist that you follow regular, some favorite author or some favorite teacher...take the time to check them out. Even your pastor. A good pastor will ask you to not believe him without referring to the Scriptures.
Of course, there are good t.v. evangelists. Just make sure they are the real deal. The Bible is the real deal folks. Nothing more. Nothing less. Either they preach the Bible, or they aren't the real deal. Always be in prayer that you are following the right crowd. And always be mindful of bad fruit.
I know of one place that I can send you in complete confidence that you will be hearing The Real Deal. If you can't make it to church on Sunday, or you need a mid-week pick me up perhaps listen to Bott Radio Network. It is great to have on in the back ground while going through your daily routines. A daily sermon for inspiration keeps your focus where it needs to be! Bott has stations nation-wide, or you can do like we do, and just listen online.

Proverbs 6: 6-11
Today read Proverbs 6:6-11.
Have you or your kids ever had an ant farm? They are fascinating. We all know that ants are known for working hard. They lift huge loads, they march, march, march all in line. I am not prone to laziness in all areas of my life....but I am prone to laziness in some areas. I'll be the first to admit that quilting and blogs are very distracting to me.
Does verse 10 mean that we shouldn't ever rest? I am not a cat person, so forgive me those that are. But this verse makes me think of cats. How they just lay there, opening an eye and looking at you as if to say, "ok, I'll get up after I have another nap."
I do remember times in the past where I have gotten too much sleep. Times when I was bored, had nothing to do...(like when I was pregnant and had to be careful how much activity I did), I would feel so horrible if I slept too much. It felt so much better the days that I got up and moved around and did what I could.

Does verse 11 mean that poor people are lazy? Ummm, no. I have seen wealthy that barely lifted a finger and poor men that worked more than one job just to get by paycheck to paycheck. I think this verse can be both literal and figurative speaking. A lazy person is certainly poor in spirit. They miss out on so much...family time, church time, hobbies. I know of one man that lost his family due to laziness. I'll tell you his story:
This family had a small, humble house out in the country. The house, as any older house did, needed repair work done over the years. But the husband never would lift a hand to do it. Besides mice being in the house, there were other critters as well. At night, you dare not walk across the floor without shoes or you would step on a slug. The walls in the morning were covered in bright, shiny slug slime.All the walls. One morning the wife went into the kitchen to find a nice large snake skin wrapped around the kitchen table legs. All around the outside walls, one could take a flashlight, shine it, and see the ground outside. The back door fell off, so the husband just nailed up some ugly plywood.
This family had a small, humble house out in the country. The house, as any older house did, needed repair work done over the years. But the husband never would lift a hand to do it. Besides mice being in the house, there were other critters as well. At night, you dare not walk across the floor without shoes or you would step on a slug. One summer, the husband finally agreed to work on the house. They re-financed and got enough money to fix all the walls, replace floors, put in new carpet and re model the kitchen. The materials arrived in October and the husband stacked them outside. Where they sat all winter under rain and snow. Come April, they still sat. The house worsened, and the wife finally moved out with her children.She just felt like they could no longer live in these circumstances. The insurance company came and condemned the house one day and the husband, rather than fixing the old house, moved into his mothers house. The wife always hoped he would care enough to provide a home for his children, but he never did.
That was me. I lived in that house. My children never could have friends over; it was too embarrassing and disgusting for all of us. Eventually we divorced and my ex husband still lives at his mother's house. Our home truly was condemned, and when we were divorced some 5 years after the children and I moved out, the house was sold to a construction company and my ex-husband actually had to write them a check. He lost money on the house/property.
Isn't that sad? I think it is so sad for him and for the example he sets for his son.

Once again, please realize I don't tell my stories for you to judge or for you to sympathize with me. I can now think of ways that maybe I could have prevented this...I could have been more loving, respectful, supportive. But, this is the very best example I could think of when I read these verses. It all is very sad to me...and so very preventable.
Don't let laziness mess up a good thing. Quilting, reading, tv, computer time. They are ok in moderation. But don't let them get in the way of what should come first.

Proverbs 6:1-5
Proverbs 6 is broken into five segments, so we will be looking at one section each day.
Today read Proverbs 6: 1-5.
So, how many times have you been known to 'put your foot into your mouth'?
We all have at one time or another. Let's face it...nothing gets us in more trouble than our mouth.
Have you ever lost sleep over it?
According to this passage, we are to seek forgiveness before we even do what?
I wonder how many nights I have fallen to sleep without seeking forgiveness or making things right with someone after I opened my big mouth?
Today, while going about your tasks, be conscience of your mouth. Purposely try to use it for loving, kindness, uplifting another. If you get into an argument, or mess up, ask forgiveness. Don't be rude. Even in public, or while driving. You think that other driving doesn't know what you're mouthing to him? He at least knows the attitude behind it!
Read verse 6 again. Just think of the feeling the gazelle has...he knows he is being hunted, he tries everything, running, dodging, jumping, hiding. And all of a sudden when he thinks he just can't make it anymore, he knows this is the end, he looks behind him...and he's free! He is no longer being hunted! That feeling of freedom is what God wants for us.
It is much better than that "Oh, man, I just put my foot in my mouth again" feeling.

According to this passage, we are to seek forgiveness before we even do what?
I wonder how many nights I have fallen to sleep without seeking forgiveness or making things right with someone after I opened my big mouth?
Today, while going about your tasks, be conscience of your mouth. Purposely try to use it for loving, kindness, uplifting another. If you get into an argument, or mess up, ask forgiveness. Don't be rude. Even in public, or while driving. You think that other driving doesn't know what you're mouthing to him? He at least knows the attitude behind it!
Read verse 6 again. Just think of the feeling the gazelle has...he knows he is being hunted, he tries everything, running, dodging, jumping, hiding. And all of a sudden when he thinks he just can't make it anymore, he knows this is the end, he looks behind him...and he's free! He is no longer being hunted! That feeling of freedom is what God wants for us.
It is much better than that "Oh, man, I just put my foot in my mouth again" feeling.
