When we devote ourselves to our private study times, what gems we find!
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (II Corinthians 4:16-18)It is amazing to me how the Spirit brings us verses that we need! Frankly, I was getting irritated at the pain that I experience each day in two areas where the bone is slowly degenerating. My body does seem to be wasting away!
I know that many Christians look at these verses and interpret them in the light of persecution and trials that we endure. But the more day-to-day meaning for me is that we are getting older, and getting older is not for sissies!
The older that we get, the more we can appreciate these verses, whether we are enduring scorn and persecution for our faith, or whether we are dealing with the aging and "wasting away" of our physical bodies!
What a treasure to be reminded of the fact that we are being renewed and infilled with His Spirit each day. We can look to the things that are unseen, for this earth is temporary. Jesus promises us a room in the mansions of heaven that we can't see yet.
If we embrace the verses there, we won't lose heart!
