What are you listening to?

Have you ever wondered, "Where did that thought come from?"

Sometimes we have thoughts pop into our head that we really don't like. Something that is sad, or depressing, or perhaps it's a negative thought about someone else.

Many of us have found that this happens less frequently when we have filled our minds with precious verses and promises from the Bible, and also when we are "making melody in our hearts to the Lord." Often those "heart melodies" spill out onto our lips and we find ourselves humming or singing during our day -- and the words of those songs and hymns are good things to think on!

Recently I've had a wonderful old hymn in my mind:

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

What are you listening to, today?

  1. I've been listening to Chris Tomlin lately, and this song stood out, especially the chorus where he states "I will trust you" I love getting choruses like that stuck in my head to sing to myself during the day, especially when the Lord tells me in answer to certain prayers "not yet"

    Sovereign in the mountain air
    Sovereign on the ocean floor
    With me in the calm
    With me in the storm

    Sovereign in my greatest joy
    Soverign in my deepest cry
    With me in the dark
    With me at the dawn

    In your everlasting arms
    All the pieces of my life
    From beginning to the end
    I can trust you

    In your never failing love
    You work everything for good
    God whatever comes my way
    I will trust you

  2. Love Fanny Crosby. Her story alone is inspirational, and we are so blessed by her hymns. What I listen to? It's getting harder and harder to have the radio even on the country music channel nowadays! My goodness! So most days it's things I've loaded on my iPod where I have control of the feed.
