Today, let's do something different in our prayer time.
Let's take two minutes.
Pretty short, huh? (Grin)
Now, let's clear our minds and simply say to the Lord, that we are not going to ask anything from Him, but instead, we will thank Him for all that we have.
And then take that two minutes.
Complete silence.
Reverence. It takes time to master silent prayer. Sometimes you may sit staring at your shoes, thinking about the things you need to be doing.
Silence is difficult. What is supposed to happen in these two minutes? (Many people take silent prayer time longer.) When we approach our prayer time with an open heart, we will feel our lives, our attitudes, even the way we look at things change.
I know it's difficult to get "situated." Believe me, I know. We need to stop thinking about all the tasks that need to be done or the people we need to speak to. Like an insomniac trying to get to sleep, we have to tell our mind to stop whirring along. Take the courage and the discipline to ignore the distractions and concentrate on HIM.
Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (I Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Rejoice. Be grateful. Then trust Him in silent prayer.
Perhaps one reason why silent prayer can be so meaningful is that it gives us time to listen. I believe the Holy Spirit can use this time to bring things to mind that we need to take care of. Sins that we should repent of, attitudes that need to change. Or just the simplicity of feeling His comfort as we sit and wait for His peace. Silent prayer can put things into perspective.
It's not about me. Or what I can do.
It's about Him. And what He can do.
Let's pray.......
I like this idea very much and it will be great doing this on my back porch in the early mornings.
