Untied to do a job for Him

When we paused yesterday, we were considering this question: are we tied up, and prevented from doing a job for Jesus?

If we are honest with ourselves, we are tied down by many things. Things that hurt us. And that hurt our ability to do a work, great or small, for His glory. (And don't forget, there really are no "small" works for His glory. All of the jobs that we do are precious in His sight!)

Let's look at our own lives, and see if we can see some ropes that are holding us back . . .

There are several ropes that come first to my mind -- guilt, anxiety, and unforgiving spirits. Our Father will forgive our sins, replace our anxiety with peace, and enable us to forgive:
I, even I, am he who blots out    your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more. (Isaiah 43:25)
So we say with confidence,“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.    What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:6)
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13)

Some of us are tied down with the need to give up an obsession, or a chemical dependency. Others may be tied to our smartphones or tablets, and be unable to put those down to focus on the more important things. Some need to let go and show others the love, peace, faith, joy, and kindness that He has shown to us.

As believers, we need to be untied from what weighs us down. From what stops us from doing a job for Him. We need to be free to experience Jesus in our lives, to love God, and to love each other. We can't fully commit to Him, or to bringing glory to Him, when we are tied up. We must surrender our burdens and weights to Him, just as the owner of the momma donkey and colt surrendered them to be used by Christ.

When we are untied from our guilt, our sins, and the other issues that hold us back, we can live a life of faith without the pressure of "what if someone finds out?" and without the guilt of "I've let Him down."  We will be able to praise and honor God. We can be set loose to do the work He has for us, to fulfill the purpose He has planned for us.

Let's pray today to be untied from the problems and "sins that so easily beset us" and let's get to work for Him!
