Applications

How can we apply these first four verses of Titus?

First, we need to be saved by God's grace. Are we trusting in Jesus Christ alone for our salvation? Then we know that God opened our blind eyes and the Holy Spirit called to us. We were raised from our sin and spiritual death and we repented (that means turned away from) of our sinful ways. We now have faith in Him and there are evidences of new life in our hearts.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

We love God and want to know Him better.

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you,
    my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1)

We hate our sins and want to conquer them.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride, arrogance, the evil way,
And the perverted mouth, I hate. (Proverbs 8:13)

We love God's Word and spend time studying and praying.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

....for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. (Acts 17:11)

Secondly, are we seeking to life a life of good deeds because of what Jesus has done for us? Are we living to please Him, and witnessing to others about the gospel?

Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary. (Galatians 6:9)

Lastly, are we committed to a local church where God's Word is honored and His gospel is preached?

and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Then, we are living as God's people in a pagan world.
