What a blessing it is for us to have our Bible!
The Bible can show us our sin:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
It assures us of our salvation:
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not
in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:8-9)
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your
heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
The Bible can comfort us when we are sad:
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock,
in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my
stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
. . . he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe
away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from
all the earth. The Lord has spoken. (Isaiah 25:8)
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you
will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. (John 16:22)
The Word can assist us when we feel like rejoicing:
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
(Psalm 105:3)
. . . and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with
singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake
them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. (Isaiah 35:10)
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their
hands. (Isaiah 55:12)
Praise Him for the blessing of His Word!
I'm so thankful we don't have to rely on word of mouth and handed down stories to learn of God and His works, His saints, His will and His love!
ReplyDeleteThere was once a time in my work life, that I worked with a very difficult person. It was so bad, I would go home each day and begin reading Psalm after Psalm to calm myself and try to find God's will in how to react. That was the only thing that would work for me.
God reveals Himself in His word and that is one way we develope a close relationship with Him.
I'm so very thankful for my Bible!
I think the Bible is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given to the world. Without it, we wouldn't know anything about Him, or HIs Son and the forgiveness to be had through believing in Him. It gives us guidance in every area of our lives...tells us how to be good wives, mothers, sisters and friends. All of what we need to know about God is found within it's pages, and we would be literally lost without it.
