Dorcas - conclusion of Two lives serving Christ

What an inspiration the story of Dorcas can be to us! The last time that we see her in Acts, she is joyfully using her the second life God has gifted her with, to continue to serve Him! God is being glorified and many are coming to believe in Him.

Certainly God is glorified in the story of Dorcas being raised from the dead -- but He is also honored in her ministry. In her acts of compassion, her kindness, her willingness to go the extra mile for others, she brought the Gospel to many who would never have "heard" it in any other way.

We do not need to do huge, noble things or things that grab people's attention in order for our lives to glorify Him. He will be honored and glorified in our acts of obedience and love, no matter how small or simple they may seem to be.  Whoever we are, wherever we are, we can express our gratitude to Him each day.

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be
pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
                   (Psalm 19:14)

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but
whoever is kind to the needy honors God. (Proverbs 14:31)

He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well.
Is that not what it means to know me? declares the Lord.
                   (Jeremiah 22:16)

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory because
of your lovingkindness, because of your truth. (Psalm 115:1)

Is there a Dorcas in our lives? Is there someone we know that serves God devotedly? Let her know that you are praying for her, and that you love her and glorify God with her.

  1. I so want to be Dorcas! I hope I'm moving in that direction, but sometimes it's just really hard not to be selfish. With God's help, I can do all things though!!

  2. There is much food for thought here! I am not Dorcas, but I would like to be and only God can make it happen xx
