Verses that inspire

"Good fences make good neighbors".... a familiar line from a Robert Frost poem . . . it got me thinking.  Good fences make good Christians, too.

Know what I mean?
No?
Let me explain.

There are ways that we can "hedge ourselves" and protect ourselves from Satan . . .

In Job 1:6-10, Satan is seen, inquiring of God regarding His servant, Job. He says this:

Have you not put a hedge of protection around him and his household
and everything that he has? (Job 1:10)

Satan was exactly right. And God puts that same hedge of protection around each of us, His faithful followers.

Why?

Satan walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (I Peter 5:8)

Hard to believe, but we can actually chop some pretty big holes in God's protective hedge. Sin, neglect of our prayer and Bible reading, taking for granted our relationship with Him.

How can we start to fill in those holes? Obviously, we need His help to fill them in.

Prayer is our number one option; asking Him to protect us from the darts of the evil one. Also vitally important is our Bible-reading. The Spirit can help us each and every day, when troubles or decisions present themselves. He can bring to mind a verse that we've read or memorized. But He can't do it if we don't give Him material to work with!

Let's determine to make our Bible work a priority! Have a plan, and stick to it. And tune in here where other women (and men, sometimes!) leave comments of verses that have inspired them.

Won't you leave a comment today of a verse that has meant much to you recently?

  1. I read a blog this morning that was talking about how we should not be bad mouthing our leaders. We've got an election coming up in a couple of weeks, and your election cycle in the states is just beginning. It is so easy to get caught up in the "no politician is a good politician" trap. Reading this verse from Paul's letter to Titus this morning hit me right smack up the side of the head.

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

  2. Everything you say is true, Jacque. Even those (maybe especially those) of us who have been Christians since childhood, can become very lax in both those disciplines! They are so important. Today I pick the verses from 2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work!

  3. OH yes. When we aren't living strife free in our pitiful perception, then we suddenly see the gaps in the hedge ad start trying to fill them in. IF we are fortunate enough to be believers.
