Whether it's a casual prayer before a meal, or the heartfelt cry of the believer in trouble, prayer is an awesome powerhouse in our world.
We often take it for granted.
I hope that I don't, for prayer is a power that only God truly understands. We can behind to get a glimpse sometimes, but I wonder if we'll really know, this side of heaven? How many times have our circumstances changed, and we don't even know that someone was interceding for us at the throne of God?
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Luke 18:1)
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
We often take it for granted. Oh dear, I said that already.
Prayer is indeed a privilege. We have the opportunity to open our hearts and communicate directly with our Creator - no appointment needed.
When we pray, we should spend some time listening to Him. Prayer is powerful because it's our way of making our requests known to Him, that is true. But it's also a time that He can communicate His desires to us.
The Bible teaches us about the power of prayer. Jehoshaphat prayed when the armies of three different nations came against Judah and God helped him achieve a tremendous victory (II Chronicles 20). Elisha prayed for the son of the Shunammite woman, and God allowed him to raise the boy from the dead (II Kings 4). Peter prayed and Dorcas was restored (Acts 9).
We may not experience dramatic instances like those recorded in our Bibles, but we are still able to take hold of the power of God and see Him work in our lives, and in the lives of others.
Prayer is a powerful thing. We can ask for healing and peace. We can ask for forgiveness of sins. We can ask God to bless us and others as we work for Him.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
There are so many needs in our world today. We are praying for those facing ill health; we are praying for those who minister to them. We pray for those in financial difficulty as our world changes so drastically. We pray for those who are not believers, for those who don't yet have a relationship with our Lord.
If you have a prayer request that we can lift up to our Father, leave a comment below and we'll be honored to partner with you in prayer.
Praying for the world for the first time thanks to this study.
