Proverbs 11: 1-4

For today's passage I am stopping after just four verses because of the discussion that I started on Friday.

Please hop back and read Proverbs 10: 15, 16, 22; then read today's passage.

As I responded to a comment for Friday's post; I have lived all sides of  the monetary sides of life--I grew up in a household where both parents worked and between them they brought home about $150,000+ a year (that was 20 years ago). I was a single mom for a while that brought in--you ready for this? $350.00/month and had to live in government housing.  I have also lived at all stages in between.

I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to live in so many different types of situations. I have learned much and have gained an understanding for people from all walks of life.

Yet, in spite of all of that, I am most happy that I have a relationship with Christ and the more that I grow in Him the more and more blessed that I am. And when just like verse 4 says, the day will come when I have passed out of this world, and I stand before God. And the greatest wealth that I have ever obtained in life will follow me into the afterlife as I enter into the heavenly gates. What a blessing!

  1. I like to gather wealth as "jewels in my crown" so to speak. I want so many in that thing, that when I lay it at Jesus' feet, I will barely be able to lift it. Do I want money in this life? I have to be honest and say, you bet I do. But not at the cost of my Christian witness or relationship with my Lord.

I have known very wealthy people who are generous with the church, and have a loving family life. So, I want to say that not all rich folks have a bad life. But, being rich is not what makes their home life good. Or bad for that matter. Being rich in the Lord is what makes them happy, loving, generous people.

  2. Oh, most certainly! I didn't mean that all rich people are bad...I know some wealthy, generous people too.

I just meant to say that money is not the way to happiness!

  3. AND--the wealthiest man that ever lived wrote the book of Proverbs. He just recognized what was most important. :)

  4. Absolutely. And I didn't mean to imply that you were saying all rich people are bad. :P That was just the thing going through my head when I was writing. You were not the target at all.

  5. You're bringing back memories, Tonya! When hubby and I first got hitched, we had 300.00 to our names. We had weeks when his paycheck (commissions only) was 35.00....but we still look back fondly on those times. Why? Because we were rich in other things. We never have made up that "hill" and become wealthy. But we were happy with the choices we made. He turned down jobs that would have paid more, but would have required him to do immoral things. I hope that over the years I have been able to put some jewels in my crown - I want to give it to Jesus!

  6. I wish you all could see the Christmas trees I have come up with over the years. Quite out of the ordinary. I might try to blog about it sometime if I can find photos. Totally off topic--sorry--but those were fun times!
